Roofs, typical of the Haute Auvergne, are steep to throw snow. They are covered with slate (shale), flat stones carved scale-like fish, held on Doelle (lath) using wooden pegs. The towers, topped with pepper, were crowned with battlements provided in the fifteenth century to defend the castle.
